WHAT WE BELIEVE

Here at the Gardner Church of Christ, we make an honest effort to follow the Bible as given to man through the inspiration of God. We follow no formal creed or confession of faith.

The Bible teaches that sinners are saved by God's grace through man's obedient faith (Ephesians 2:8-9; Hebrews 11:1-40; James 2:17, 24).

Obedient faith includes:

- belief in Jesus as the Son of God (John 8:24)
- repentance of sins (Lk. 13:3; Acts 17:30-31)
- confession of faith in Christ (Acts 8:37; Romans 10:9-10)
- baptism for the remission of sins (Mark 16:16; Acts 2:38; 1 Pet. 3:21)
- faithfulness to Jesus till death (Rev. 2:10)

The churches of Christ are organized with elders, deacons, preachers, and members as in New Testament times (Philippians 1:1; 1 Timothy 3:1-1-13, etc.). In this respect, we differ greatly from the many denominations in our country. We have no official boards or panels of men overseeing the churches of Christ - district, regional, national, or otherwise. No man, or group of men, pronounces "official doctrine" within the churches of Christ. The Bible is our only guide, which makes our worldwide unity in matters of faith and practice all the more remarkable.

We believe that Jesus of Nazareth is the Son of God (John 20:30-31), the Bible is inspired of God (2 Timothy 3:16-17), and Jesus will return to take His kingdom (church) home to God (1 Corinthians 15:24). We long for that day!

We emphasize sincere worship in accordance with God's Word (Matthew 15:8-9; John 4:24), evangelism (Matthew 28:18-20; Acts 8:4), godly living (Titus 2:11-12), love for one other (John 13:33-34), and helping those in need (James 1:27).

Our plea is simply "Back to the Bible"! Religious unity is possible in a day of division by simply following the New Testament pattern and putting aside human creeds and traditions (John 17:17-21). We can be 8Christians only, nothing more and nothing less!
